Master Educator

We have so many reasons to be proud of Paul. He is a great husband, father, teacher, coach and example of a man of God. For his role as teacher, Concordia University in Mequon, WI honored Paul with the James J. Juergensen Master Educator Award "for demonstrating distinction, dedication, excellence and a love for learning within LCMS secondary schools." Paul received his award at the University's commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14. We left the boys with Grandma and Grandpa Cheney and had a great weekend!

Here is Paul with the award's namesake. We had lunch on Saturday with Dr. Juergensen, other award winners, and the President of Concordia University Wisconsin.

Here is the President of the University introducing Paul. At this point in the speech, the President was telling about Paul's dedication as a coach and how Paul had made it very clear in his first contacts with the school that if his softball team had won all of their playoff games, Paul would have been coaching softball instead of receiving this award! Dedicated, indeed!

Here is Paul actually receiving the award.

An amazing side benefit to our trip to WI, was seeing my college roommate! We haven't seen each other since her wedding almost 7 years ago! It was so fun to catch up with her. On our first night in town, Jaime, Paul and I ate dinner, walked to a small chocolate shop for Gelato, then to a coffee shop to warm up. It was just like we were all in college again!

Since it was rainy on Saturday, Paul and I stopped by Concordia's campus on the way back to the airport to take a few pictures. The campus is right on Lake Michigan. They have done many improvement projects along the shore to help keep the shoreline from washing away.

It was pretty windy (excuse my hair in Paul's face), but we had to have a picture of us in front of the lake. After this picture, we quickly ran back to our warm coffee in the car!

One of the newer buildings on campus in this Environmental Science building. We didn't get the chance to tour it, but it looks incredible! It overlooks the lake and is complete with an area for lectures outside and hybrid car only parking.

We had a fun weekend seeing old friends, celebrating Paul, and not being parents for a few days.
