Our August

When I downloaded pictures from my camera to the computer and had to create an "August 2011" folder to put them in, I realized I hadn't blogged in a long time! So, here's a recap of our month of August, just in time for September! (I do realize that my children are in still in their jammies in most of these pictures. We have been a little laid back recently!)

Paul is back to school full-time now, so we start every morning with, "Where's Daddy?" No "Good morning, Momma!" just "Where's Daddy?" To make the long days seem not so long without Daddy home, I have had to come up with some fun and new activities for us. And the boys have created their own fun, too!

Nana surprised us with these lacing cards. It took a little teaching on my part, but they caught on quickly and were so excited to show them off to Daddy when we visited him at work for dinner!

Often when the boys paint, I squirt the paint directly onto the paper. On this day, I thought they would enjoy "cups" of paint to dip into. They loved it! Eli even said, "That's a good idea, Mom!"

Paul suggested our next activity while I was wondering what to do for Papa's birthday cards. We filled the plate with shaving cream, added a few drops of food coloring and swirled them around. Then, we pressed card stock on top of the shaving cream to "tie-dye" the paper!

After printing the paper, I let them get their hands in the shaving cream and play. They had a great time, of course!
It looked like such fun, I couldn't resist making one of my own! The cards turned out pretty good, I think. Mine's on top, then Eli's and Micah's.
One day while playing at home, Eli had this great idea--put the ball on top of a bottle and hit it with the golf club. The ball flies much further that way. He and I thought it best for this game to be played sitting down.  (His uncles should be so proud--and he'll need lessons, please!)

Eli and Micah have really been into pretend play lately. They act out elaborate scenarios and fill me in on what's happening along the way. They have been fascinated with playing in the baby's room and I often find them playing with "baby Mario." One day last week, I was talking to Eli in the living room when I heard from the back of the house, "Mom! I'm falling!" over and over. I went to check and Micah was hanging on the front rail of the baby's crib trying to reach a toy he had thrown in there! It was funny, but he was distressed so I didn't take the time to get a picture. He obviously learned his lesson the next time--he moved his step stool next to the crib and climbed in!

We made sugar cookies last week for our favorite librarian.  It was the last toddler story time the boys would attend since they start school this week. Getting the cookie cutters out reminded them of playing with play-dough, so we had to of course!

As for #3, things are still going well. I had an appointment last week and my dr. recognized some signs of edema (swelling) starting in my feet. He has suggested that I take some time to get off my feet more often during the day. I almost laughed at him. I haven't been too good at following that suggestion so far, but I look forward to the boys being in school two days a week so I really can rest a little more.
