Story Book Birthday Party!

For Eli and Micah's 3rd birthday, we decided to have a children's story book party! The idea first came up as we were discussing what kind of cake to make them this year. What did they like? What symbolizes this year for them? Immediately, we thought of the book "Little Mouse and the Big Cupcake" (pictured below). The boys were introduced to this book at library story time and we have checked it out many times. The boys love reading and going to the library to choose new books, so we built the party around children's books. We really had a great time!

Here was the front of our invitation. Eli and Micah love Dr. Seuss books, especially the three represented here: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish; Green Eggs and Ham; and Hop on Pop.

The afternoon of the party, Nana (my mom) and I decorated the giant cupcakes.

In the invitation, I asked all of our friends to bring a snack to share inspired by a favorite children's book. I knew they would be creative and come up with some great snack ideas. Thank you, everyone, for your contributions! They were fabulous!  (You can click on this picture to zoom in and see the titles of all of the books.)

We had a craft table set up where the kids could decorate their own bookmarks and write or draw their own mini books.

We had a quiet reading spot.

Eli and Micah's favorite part (besides cake)? Our favorite librarian attended the party and read two books to all of the kids!

Here's the book and one of the giant cupcakes!

We sang "Happy Birthday" to Eli first,
then Micah.

They loved the giant cupcakes!

After everyone left, we got the boys settled enough to get one quick picture.
Happy Birthday, Eli and Micah!

Thank you to everyone who came and celebrated with us. We are so blessed to have so many great friends! G'ma, G'pa, Nana and Papa--Thank you so much for your help in cleaning up before and after the party. It was so nice for me to focus on the party and not the rest of the house!
