Colored Pasta

Months ago, Paul and I found some Bob the Builder pasta at the grocery store and thought the boys would love it! Well, they liked the IDEA of it, but since it was a corn and rice pasta, they didn't actually like to eat it. It's been sitting in my pantry and I've been trying to think of something to do with it. This last week, inspiration struck--I'll color each character a different color and let the boys glue them onto paper. I thought Eli and Micah would be interested in my idea, but I had no clue they were going to LOVE it!

Eli (left) and Micah (right) helped me sort the characters. They also told me what color everyone should be.

I mixed up the dye (rubbing alcohol and food coloring) and put the pasta in.

We let them sit overnight in the dye, then took all the pasta out to dry.

 Then the fun part--gluing!

Here are Micah (top) and Eli (bottom) so proud of their finished art!

This project was so fun for Eli and Micah and I was excited that they actually got to practice a lot of great skills--sorting and counting, self-control (squeeze and stop with the glue), pincer grip (placing pasta on glue) and patience (waiting for the dye to color the pasta, waiting for a "stay at home day with mom", and waiting for glue to dry).
